SHONA KIYAMA

choreographer in residence

Shona Kiyama (木山 晶南, she/her) is a Japanese-Canadian movement artist currently based in Toronto.

She graduated from Toronto Metropolitan University’s Performance Dance Program with her BFA in 2024. During her time there, she performed in pieces by Guillaume Côté, Alysa Pires, Hanna Kiel, Daileidys Carrazana, Vicki St. Denys, and Valerie Calam, and was the co-producer of her graduating class’s senior showcase, (in) momentum.

Since graduating, she has performed and worked for choreographers and companies such as The Shaw Festival, Julia Cratchley (Transcen|dance Project), Human Body Expression, Kaeja d’Dance, and The Parahumans.

Shona was a co-choreographer and performer in the film Something To Forget Me By, directed by Erin Lum and Corrine Langmuir, which received the Audience Choice Award at the Festival of Recorded Movement in 2022.

As an artist, her interests lie in fusing Japanese cultural experiences with her understanding of Eurocentric contemporary dance, and finding the balance between the two identities.

JULIAN ANDERSON-BOWES

musician in residence

Julian Anderson-Bowes (he/him) is an acoustic and electric bassist, improviser and composer hailing from Toronto, Canada. He performs with artists across a range of musical styles from traditional jazz and free improvisation to experimental/indie pop. He regularly composes and presents his original music with a shifting cast of collaborators, and in 2025 was awarded a residency at Toronto’s Tranzac Club, where he workshopped new compositions for his project called Moonbliss. In May of 2025, he released his first full length album with the group JabFung, the project he co-leads with LA-based drummer Anthony Fung, and also featuring Cuban-Canadians Luis Deniz and Rafael Zaldivar on saxophone and piano respectively.

In February of 2022 he released his first full-length album of music for solo bass, which was recorded at home during the winter of 2020/2021 and was completely self- produced. In the fall of 2023 he became a member of the modal music collective, Labyrinth Ontario, and has participated in five residencies with the group exploring music from Turkey, Greece, and Iran.Outside of the creative music realm, he has crafted a musical/sound scores for two solo dances by dance artist Katherine Semchuk: her own “In Pieces,” which premiered at Fluid Fest in Calgary in fall 2021, and “To Be Here,” a piece created in collaboration with Peggy Baker during the waning months of the COVID-19 Pandemic, and presented recently by Video Cabaret in Toronto for a five-show run in August 2025.

MICHAEL DAVIDSON

musician

Toronto-based, Canadian vibraphonist & composer Michael Davidson, has built a reputation on moving fluidly between genres, consistently defying stylistic boxes. His music has been described “as sensuously immediate, yet questing, as it is both structurally rigorous and open in poetic effect,” (The Jazz Journal). Michael is an in-demand collaborator, leader and side person across the improvised, jazz, and creative music scenes. His musical pursuits blur the lines between composition and improvisation drawing equally from jazz, free music and classical traditions.

He has worked with many of the active jazz and improvised music players in Toronto and internationally including recent collaborations with drummer, Joe Chambers, vibraphonist David Friedman, and saxophonist Roscoe Mitchell.

With double bassist Dan Fortin, he has started an independent record label, Elastic Recordings, exploring music that blurs the boundaries between improvisation and composition. Upcoming releases include collaborations with David Binney, Joe Chambers, Tommy Crane, and host of Toronto & international artists.

ALINE HOMZY

musician

Aline Homzy is an award-winning violinist and composer. Originally from Montreal, born to a Québécois mom and an American dad with Eastern-European roots, Aline’s original music reflects her culturally-diverse background. Aline has played on multiple Juno-nominated albums and has been named a rising star jazz violinist in the 73rd Downbeat Magazine Critics Poll.

Currently, Aline is on faculty at Humber College and regularly plays for the popular Candlelight Concerts series. Aline is also working on new projects, one with songs in French and one relating to the under-world, which she developed during composition residencies as a fellow, at the Hambidge Center for the Arts, the Wurlitzer Foundation and Everwood Farm artist retreat.
